Theresa J. Riley, 99
Riley, Theresa, 99 (nee McCarthy), on Sunday, July 4th at the Roosevelt Care Center, Edison, NJ. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 9th at 10:00 am at St Josephs Church, 767 Prospect St, Maplewood. Interment to follow at St. Josephs Cemetery, 360 Broadway, Keyport, NJ. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 8th from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave, Springfield. Born in NY to the late James McCarthy and Theresa Costello, Theresa moved to NJ in 1912. She married Albert Riley in 1929, and the couple settled in Maplewood and started their family, raising 8 children. Theresa was a homemaker for many years, and then in the 1960's after the death of her husband, she began a career in sales working in Summit, Elizabeth and Edison. She relocated to Edison, Chatham Township and Union through the years to be closer to her children, and has resided in Edison for the past 6 years. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph's church and enjoyed retreats at St. Paul's Abbey in Newton, crocheting and needlework. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed traveling and the NY Mets, but above all spending time with her family. Predeceased by her husband Albert, her sons, Frederick and William; her brother James McCarthy, her sister Florence McCarthy and her sons in law James McNamara and Wilhelm Krempin; she is survived by 6 children; James and his wife Peggy, Teresa McNamara, Patricia DeBlassi and her husband Sabatino, Margaret Riley, Robert and his wife Sharon, Florence Krempin; daughters in law Doris Riley and Mary Riley; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren
