Merriman D. Hull, 92 went home to be with his Lord on Friday, July 23rd at Overlook Hospital. Arrangements under the direction of the Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave, Springfield, NJ. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 27th at 10 am at The Evangel Baptist Church, 242 Shunpike Rd, Springfield. Interment to follow at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 26th from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the funeral home. Merriman was a gentleman personified, who loved the Lord with all of his heart. He was a Vermonter through and through. Born in West Berkshire, Vermont, he grew up with loving parents on a dairy farm. He was valedictorian of his class and went with a full scholarship to the University of Vermont, College of Engineering. He was a member of the ROTC Band, baseball team and a life member of the Wilbur Honor Society at UVM and the Chinquapin Society at Mount St. Mary's University, Emmitsburg, MD. He was an engineer for Alcatel-Lucent for over 38 years. After graduation from UVM in 1940, Merriman joined the military where he served for five years. He was stationed in the States and also abroad during those years. After his discharge, he came to New Jersey for an interview for an engineering position. He met the love of life at that time and they were married five months later. Merr, as he was often called, was a member of the former Clinton Hill Baptist Church for many years and was a chairman of the Board of Trustees for over 11 years. He was a choir member who loved music, especially music pertaining to God. He was a coach for the Union Little League baseball teams and former member of the American Legion Post #35. Merriman was predeceased by his son Dennis in 2006. He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy of 63 years, his adoring and devoted daughter Donna Hull Owlett and her husband Steven and by his two precious grandchildren Andrew and Ashley. Merr was so proud of his grandson Andrew Owlett and of all of his accomplishments; both on and off his college campus, and attended his functions as often as he could. His granddaughter Ashley Owlett was a real and complete joy to him. He adored her charming personality. He is also survived by a brother Carroll Hull and family of Vermont; his brother in law Roger Reeves and family of Delaware; one special cousin Elizabeth Hull Olson of Allentown, NJ; dear friends Steven & Nancy Siracusa; and many other loving friends.
