John W. Hoffman 82 of Union died at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday March 24, 2007. Born in Irvington he lived in Boston, Mass and Elizabeth before moving to Union 35 years ago. Mr. Hoffman was a salesman with Trader Horn in Union for 10 years retiring in 1995, prior to that he was employed at Brick Church Appliance in Union for many years. He served in the US Army during WWII seeing action in China, Central and India Burma with the 436th Bomb Squadron. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 3 bronze stars. He attended Boston University. John loved to play golf, and chess, he played chess at Barnes and Noble and with the Millburn Chess Club, he was a self taught pianist who enjoyed classical music. Beloved husband for 46 years to Alice M. (nee Duval) Hoffman, devoted father of Kenneth and his wife Joanne Hoffman, Diane her husband Rodger Kleinwaks, and the late James A. Hoffman, loving grandfather of Timothy Hoffman, dear brother of Gertrude Pfisterer, Edna Howard, Albert and his wife Louise Hoffman and the late Howard Hoffman. Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation which will be held at the Bradley, Haeberle and Barth Funeral Home 1100 Pine Avenue Union on Monday March 26th from 2-4 pm only.
